Continent: North America
Capital City: Belmopan
Currency: Belize Dollar/US Dollar
Year I Visited: 2018/19
As soon as I heard the catchphrase ‘go slow, keep moving’ on Belize’s tropical islands, I knew this was a place for me. Worth visiting for a distinctly Caribbean vibe not felt in its Central American neighbours, Belize might be a small country but its chilled out, friendly residents, interesting cuisine and paradise landscapes mean it packs quite a punch. Plus, you get to ride around in old school buses!
My Belize Highlights
Here’s where I got to in Belize. Click the destination name for related blog posts.

This tropical island a short hop from Belize City may as well be called ‘Chill’. Grab a drink, watch the palm trees sway in the breeze, dive in the clear blue water and then repeat until you can manage to drag yourself away from this paradise.

San Ignacio
The town itself has a nice charm to it but San Ignacio is also geographically handy for venturing into neighbouring Guatemala, and is well-positioned for visits to some amazing ruins and caves nearby.

Orange Walk
Much like San Ignacio, the thrill of Orange Walk is not so much the ramshackle town itself, but the nature nearby. A boat trip along the river filled with fresh air, wildlife, ruins and a glass or two of rum is definitely a day well spent.
