The word ‘other-worldly’ gets thrown about a lot to describe breathtaking landscapes but nowhere epitomises that more than Jordan, so much so that a whole host of sci-fi films are filmed there. This small country packs in jaw-dropping desert, a Wonder of the World, ancient ruins, wholesome food and much, much more. It’s going to take off.
My Jordan Highlights
Here’s where I got to in Jordan. Click the destination name for related blog posts.
The scenery in this desert is so alien that they were actually filming Star Wars when I visited. Everything about Wadi Rum is breathtaking and the wealth of campsites here make for an unforgettable experience.
As if Jordan isn’t already amazing enough, it also manages to bag one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Far, far more than just the Treasury that I’ve lazily set as the picture, Petra is a gigantic site which takes a full day (or more) of exploring, hiking and soaking up to fully appreciate.
A higgledy-piggeldy array of cramped buildings and hilly streets, Jordan’s capital feels like a proper Middle Eastern city. It’s noisy and chaotic but also filled with fantastic ancient ruins and really good food.
