It’s ‘more fun in the Philippines’ apparently – stay out of the horrendous capital Manila and that will probably be the case! There aren’t many better places to beach bum than in the Philippines and there’s certainly no shortage of options. If you prefer nature, the northern island of Luzon has amazing natural scenery. The choice is yours!
My Philippines Highlights
Here’s where I got to in the Philippines. Click the destination name for related blog posts.
The large island at the top of the Philippines has a wealth of culture and natural beauty – from rice terraces to hanging coffins. The capital Manila will probably test your stress levels in terms of getting around, but escape the capital and you’ll be instantly rewarded.
Although my visit to Palawan was beset with disasters (including storms and firework burns), in its prime it is a beautiful island and boasts some of the Philippines’ most incredible beaches and waters.
A quirky island which is bound to make your visit to the Philippines unique, Bohol is home to the famous chocolate hills and the cute little tarsiers which evoke E.T. Top that off with some cool eco-stays and nice beaches and this island make for a fantastic retreat.
If you want something more off the beaten track, Negros is a safe bet. Sugar Beach in Sipalay required three buses and a boat to reach but was well worth it for the spectacular sunsets and practically deserted beach.
